Mardo's journey with Primend | 5 years

Hey! I'm Mardo, a Power BI expert and I'm celebrating my fifth anniversary at Primend Estonia this year.

Mardo PetrovFrom digging cables to IT
At the university, I studied the organization of economic information systems, and in parallel with school, I worked as an assistant electrician doing a number of electrical jobs, from digging cables to installing electrical panels. At the beginning of the second academic year, I had the opportunity to come to Primend for an internship as a business analyst. After the first week, I was completely convinced that I made the right choice because the tasks were interesting and the team seemed super cool. I believe I was quite a keen and fast learner, so I also got basic PowerBI training which helped me settle in even faster. As a surprise, I was also offered a job at the end of the internship, which I accepted without much thought. It was time to say goodbye to electrical work and start a new chapter in my career.

What is my role at Primend?
Today, my main tasks at work are preparing, cleaning and transforming data so that it can be used in Power BI. Also creating metrics, reports, databases and collecting various basic data through interfaces. The design and placement of visual elements is no less important. So a whole series of different tasks.

But what is Power BI anyway?
The short answer is that Power BI helps you understand data better and make smarter decisions. More specifically, it is a business analytics platform that helps turn boring data into exciting and understandable stories. The logic behind using Power BI is as follows: you need to say where the data comes from - maybe it's in an Excel table or a cloud service. Power BI then helps you pick up the data and play with it. Based on this, it is possible to create various graphs and tables to discover patterns and draw conclusions. For example, it is possible to find out which products sell best or which regions bring the most revenue to the company.

The best stress reliever is fresh air
It is incredibly important for me to take time for myself after the work day and find balance. That's why you can often find me in nature, walking on hiking trails and swamps. Traveling is just as important to me. To date I have explored about 15 different countries and this year I plan to go to Hungary and Portugal.
Exercise is important to me, whether it's playing disc golf, working out in the gym, or cycling. One fun fact about me is that I have also been involved in restoring Russian-era mopeds and I still have two mopeds - one of them is even still running.

This hobby has taught me the skills and love of working with my hands, which I also apply to the maintenance and repair of my car. I enjoy challenges and when I can see the result of my handiwork.
