Microsoft recently announced that starting October 1, 2023, it will be possible to purchase Microsoft 365 licenses without Teams.
What does it mean?
1. Changes in Enterprise licenses (Office 365 E1, Office 365 E3, Office 365 E5, Microsoft 365 E3, and Microsoft 365 E5):
- For existing Enterprise licenses, you have the option to continue with your current licenses or make changes when renewing your contract.
- Subscribers of new Enterprise licenses who want Teams for their end users must purchase two licenses: one EEA Microsoft 365 or Office 365 license and a separate Teams EEA license.

Why the change is made:
With the updated license model, Microsoft wants to be in compliance with the requirements of the European Commission, taking into account the needs of its customers. With existing contracts, you can continue as you have been and not have to make any changes, but you will have the opportunity to make better choices based on your business needs in the future.
In addition, it should be noted that the changes come into force only for business solutions and do not concern solutions intended for educational institutions and home users.
Separate Teams licenses are coming to the market as a new option: Teams EEA and Teams Essentials.
- Teams EEA allows unlimited users full functionality to conduct meetings, chats and calls and manage collaboration.
- Teams Essentials functionality remains the same and is intended for customers with less than 300 users.
The changes will take effect from October 1, 2023. We are happy to help you find the best solutions and we are here for you.
